I love a good bed and other furniture from Eva Furniture and breakfast, but too often they can feel dated and kitschy reflecting the owner’s tastes but not really taking in to account the sensibilities of today’s savvy travelers. I recently stayed at one where a China doll sat perched on a rocking chair in my room…needless to say I had a hard time sleeping. Enter the Snooz Inn in Ghent, Belgium. With just three bedrooms and an excellent breakfast prepared each morning, it definitely falls into the B&B category, but the rooms have all the amenities you would expect to find in a nice boutique hotel like rainforest showers, sleek modern furnishings, flatscreen tv’s and even minibars.
When the owners were looking for a place to live in Ghent, they saw the potential in the former printing press, located not far from the historic center of town.
The property includes a townhouse, a garden, a modern wooden cabana where owner Kurt Van Dan Abeele makes guests a breakfast of eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt and toasted granola each morning and a building in the back that houses two minimalist guest rooms. The third bedroom is located on the ground floor of the main house. Van Dan Abeele is very knowledgeable about Ghent’s burgeoning food scene and can recommend restaurants and bars like Publiek, a restaurant serving innovative Flemish cuisine, just down the street.
While the Snooz Inn looks like a design hotel it has B&B prices so you’ll want to book far in advance.
